"Pascaline" 1642 |
"Before Pascal
"perfected" his machines, he tried many
different methods and some 50 models were discarded. He
truly believed that his machines would save men hours of
labor. However, they did not work well. Accurate gear
cutting was not perfected. The mechanisms were forever
out of order, and only Pascal and one of his workmen
could fix them." David Weil, Computer Museum of America. |
